I think abstraction in photography is when a picture is out of focus the object is clear and the light isn't to exposed or under exposed
what we had to do was we had to go out and take pictures in our school of abstract things we found in our school I focused my abstract photos on shadows I went in every block and found a shadow in each one
in class we had to draw a copy of an image and answer some questions this was my turn out
on a post it note we had to write down what we thaught the meaning of abstraction was I thought it was a picture that can manipulate your mind into thinking your looking at something but your not and your looking at something totally different when I looked up the meaning this is what came up Abstract photography, sometimes called non-objective, experimental, conceptual or concrete photography, is a means of depicting a visual image that does not have an immediate association with the object world and that has been created through the use of photographic equipment, processes or materials.
Focus:
Light: Line: Repetition: Shape Space: Texture: Value/tone |
Which areas appear clearest or sharpest in the photograph? Which do not?
Which areas of the photograph are brightest? Are there any shadows? Does the photograph allow you to guess the time of day? Is the light natural or artificial? Harsh or soft? Reflected or direct? Which areas of the photograph are brightest? Are there any shadows? Does the photograph allow you to guess the time of day? Is the light natural or artificial? Harsh or soft? Reflected or direct? Are there objects in the photograph that act as lines? Are they straight, curvy, thin, thick? Do the lines create direction in the photograph? Do they outline? Do the lines show movement or energy? Are there any objects, shapes or lines which repeat and create a pattern?Do you see geometric (straight edged) or organic (curvy) shapes? Which are they? is there depth to the photograph or does it seem shallow? What creates this appearance? Are there important negative (empty) spaces in addition to positive (solid) spaces? Is there depth created by spatial illusions i.e. perspective? if you could touch the surface of the photograph how would it feel? How do the objects in the picture look like they would feel? Is there a range of tones from dark to light? Where is the darkest value? Where is the lightest? |
for these photos we had to choose a Pacific type of formal elements and I chose focus so I went around my school and took focused pictures.we went to the concourse and inside blocks and we also went outside near the basketball area and found flowers and a bit of tin foil so we took the opportunity to take pictures of them and this was the turnout
www: what went well was the style of the pictures
EBI: i got more pictures

photograms
"A photogram is a photographic image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of a light-sensitive material such as photographic paper and then exposing it to light. The usual result is a negative shadow image that shows variations in tone that depends upon the transparency of the objects used." Wikipedia
These photograms are many of which I found and really liked I like them because they are unusual and not many photos are like this I also like the layout of them and the way they stand out.
here are some of my photograms these are 2 of my best photograms
for the first one I made my photogram and only put a little bit of activator on it so it turned out white with a little bit of colour the second one I just picked out random objects played the out on the paper and this was the turnout I am really happy with the turnout I didn't expect it to come out that good but it did and I'm pleased with what I got
this is a photoshopped composite image
what I done was I got alone of paperclips and done a photogram and I got two circles and made a photogram and after I combined them together
Today in photoshop I made a composite image from a photogram that I turned into a Duotone plus an abstract colour photograph that I added as a separate layer and blended with the Duotone. In my opinion it is one of the best composite images that I have done what I really like about it is the colours and the way the two images blend into one. What I think can improve is the black couloirs could be a different colour but it still looks really good.
Today in photoshop we made duotones and this was my outcome what I did was I got an image and I put it I photoshop then I went to edit and went to mode and pressed duotone after I did that a little box came up and I chose two colours so I chose black and purple ad that was my outcome after I got my outcome I saved it back to a RGB coloured image (red green and blue image). What I like about this photo is the way the colours blended together what I don't really like about this photo is the was some of the objects are placed they could be placed a little bit better to make it a little bit more abstract that it already is.

This is my attempt to make some of harry Callahans pictures this is what they turned out like.
controlled assessment
What we have to do in this assessment is we have to re-create the game puzzled em we are going to do this by photographing objects in a unusual way and bring them out and see if people can guess the object if they struggle a little bit then we have been successful.
these photographers take unconventional photographs
mike kelley had an album of photographs that was of dust and here are some of the pictures

The other photographer was Bernice abbot she took pictures of bubbles here are some of the pictures of her bubble
What i'm going to do is i'm going to find objects and i'm going to take pictures of them bit in a different angle and see if it looks like the objects or not
For the end of component work I'm going to focus on out of focus photos
Here are a few photos I took in school
www: what went well was that I got them out of focus
EBI: it would be even better if got a few more pictures that where out of focus or photos that had one thing focus and the rest out of focus

These are some of Ralph Eugene meatyard's out of focus photos. what I like about them is the fact that you cannot see what the objects is but you can tell there is a object there. What I also like about the photos is the way he Took the photos. He used a long lens and defocused the sense and he put the light in the background and the dark parts are in the foreground where as in a normal picture the light is in the foreground and the dark parts are usually in the background. I like this type of style and they way the pictures opens up your mind as it gets you thinking about what the object is and what it actually looks like I also like the fact that it is in black and white because it makes it more difficult to tell what the object actually is.
these are my best photos
final project evaluation
for my final project I took 4 pictures and mounted two pictures onto of each other but with a different colour print each time. what went well was the outcome of the two pictures once they were mounted onto of each other and I like the way it looks .It would be even better if I made more pictures and chose different colours and it would be better if I experimented a bit more with the amount of pictures I mounted like I could have mounted 3 or 4 onto one another and see how it looked instead of two. overall I'm happy with my outcome and I'm happy with the way it looks but there is still room for improvement I could improve my work by using more than two colours I could use a range of colours.
