The Human Condition
why I chose human condition and my thoughts on human condition
My first thoughts about the phrase the human condition are the following:
- The way people live
- The state we're in
- Life is precious as the chances of being born are tiny
- humans know All life will come to an end and only humans will know
- A human brain is incredibly powerful. For example humans can put a person on a moon. we can also make art.
- the reason i chose human condition is because it was an interesting topic and not that many people work with the human condition
Peter Turnley
Peter turnley is a photographer who focuses on the human living condition. he has worked in over 90 countries and has had his photographs published online and on the tv many times .his photographs have been published on the Newsweek over 43 times a quote from Peter Turnley:
I have embraced photojournalism as a means to communicate, provoke, and inspire, as well as to document history. I have employed the camera as a voice, to shout out about injustice while affirming what is beautiful and good.
I like this quote as it is inspirational and it is interesting it also tells up a bit about turnleys personality as it shows what type of person he is .
here are some of Peter Turnley's photographs on the human condition
what I like about this photo is the fact that they're happy and dancing . what you can see in this photo is aload of people surrounding a father and daughter . this may also be a wedding and the father daughter dance may be happening this picture helps you open up your mind and think of may different scenarios there could be . I like the way it helps you open up your mind as it gets you thinking about all the different possibilities and it also gets you thinking that even though they are in certain conditions they are still happy and they are still able to enjoy themselves
what I can see in this photo is a girl / women looking out of the window into the distance. This photo makes you think about how she's felling her expression on her face and the reason why she is feeling the way she feels it also makes me think about what she is like as a person and what her personality is like .This is because she looks like a person who don't really care about much or pretends she doesn't but deep down she is hurting and she needs someone to help bring her back and make her feel herself again .
they are this photo for me show that they. are deeply involve or they are a new couple who are involve this for me shows that people in this world can be happy and they can love someone so deeply also that they are no afraid of other peoples opinion as they are kissing inferno of people in the restaurant this shows me that they don't care about others apart from themselves and each other .
I chose this image because I liked the way they are enjoying themselves and I also like it because of the atmosphere they are In. I also like the way this picture gets you thinking about who these people are and if they are grandfather father and son or if they are friends of a long time this gets your mind working and thinking and make you think outside the box this is a good thing as it open up your ind and makes you think of all the different possibilities
overall what I like about these photos are the fact that no-one in the picture is looking at the camera they are all looking away this for me shows that the are oblivious to the people around the and that they do not care about the people around them. Another thing that caught my eye are all the pictures are in black and white this shows me that the environment around them is unknown. Also the people in the photo are all in the centre of the frame and not in the corner or in the background this shows that these people are the mane focus of the picture and that these people are the centre of the attention.
bill Lesliebill Leslie is a artist/photographer who has worked for most of his life getting his degrees in art. what he has now done is he has set up a company called leap then look with his wife Lucy .
on Friday an artist came into our school and we had a workshop in the workshop we spoke about all the different ways of art and after we made a sculpture out of the different materials .After we did the sculpture we had to go out and make a video with our hands and then we put the phones over the sculpture and played all the videos at once.
This was the outcome: |
bill Leslie
- What did you know about Bill Leslie's practice before the workshop? What kind of art does he make and what is he interested in exploring? before the work shop I new that bill had is own company that he runs with his wife Lucy.
- What expectations did you have about the workshop? What were you hoping to learn? How did you feel beforehand? the expectations I had about the workshop were personally I thought it was going to be boring but it turned out to be quite fun what I was hoping to learn was a new way of seeing art what I felt beforehand was that it was going to be boring
- What did Bill say about the way people usually make photographs? What did he want you to try to do differently? what bill wanted to do differently was show us that there was many different ways of taking pictures and making art
- What was your team's role - disrupting the cameras's view, making a floor-based structure, experimenting with textures or populating the structure with objects? my groups roll was making a floor base structure
- What kinds of materials and tools did you use - torches, cardboard, fabric, paper, plasticine, iPads/iPhones, bridge cameras, camera obscura, DSLR, digital projector etc? the materials we used to make out object was sugar paper, cardboard , tape, paper we also used torches to shine through the the object we made.
- What kinds of pictures did you make during the workshop - still/moving, documents, portraits, experimental abstractions etc? the pictures we made during the workshop was a variety of pictures we made still, moving portraits and abstract
- What activities did you take part in on the day? What was new or surprising? What did you find challenging? What did you enjoy most? i took part in most of the activities. what was surprising was that it was fun. what I enjoyed about the workshop was working as group and.
- What connections have you made between the experiments in Friday's workshop and your chosen investigation? How might you use one or more of the ideas from the workshop in your ongoing investigation? the connections I have made between the workshop and my chosen investigation is that the sculptures that bill makes represents human condition this is because the human is using the brain to create something as amazing as art.
This is the art we created with bill lesley
MY RESPONSE TO BILLS SCULPTURES
what i have made here is a camp fire .to me this relates to human condition in two ways the first way is through the way that people sit around a camp fire and have fun something everyone should do in there life. This to me links to human condition as it is part of a humans life everyone in here life has gone to or been near or looked at a country side or a camp site this links to people have a good time bonding over the fire singing camp songs and its a part of many peoples life and many people have had there best memories located in a camp site or the country side. another way it links to the human condition is through the way on a camp site you are in a open space where there is green land and trees. trees give out oxygen and take in carbon dioxide oxygen helps us to breath we breath out carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide help the trees which help us when we are near a country side we are breathing fresh air. this is linked to human condition as we need oxygen to breath to keep us alive .
cris roche
Chris Roche is a photographer who has been working as a film maker and a photographer. He is now starting a new project called Devotion that explores men and women’s thirst for spiritual fulfillment around the world .
I would describe my photography as an expression of my journey to understand certain aspects of the human condition – aspects that deeply move and inspire me and that I hope, through my images, move and inspire others [...] Although I follow in the documentary tradition of photography in that I capture scenes rather than create them, I strive to make works that are poetic or painterly rather than purely literal, using my tools of light and composition, to hopefully reveal universal truths.

here are some of Chris Roche's pictures on human condition
what i have learned from Chris is that he is really interested in people and there believes. I also learned that he made the effort to go around the world and find people and interview them and take pictures of the people doing what they believe in. this shows me that he was really passionate about what he worked on and that he wanted to show people what he was interested on and what other people were interested in he doe this through photography and film this is a good way as a photo can show something but mean a million things.
my final outcome idea
for my final outcome i'm going to find people and photograph there surroundings. I'm going to photograph 5-8 people in there surroundings and see how many people have similar surroundings and how many people have different ones. to me this will show how different people could have the same lifestyle but they wouldn't even know as they wouldn't know each other this also shows me that people could have totally different lifestyles but yet they could be similar at the same time.
What I can see in this image is a peace of text/an instruction for a person left by either their wife or mum. There are 3 colours that contrast each other for example the red writing contrasts the black writing as you are drawn to the red writing as it is a different colour in bold and underlined.what I recognise in this photograph is the post it note stuck on the fridge/ surface left for this person. I have never received a note like this apart from in school when the teachers had marked books and put post it notes in them to tell us how to improve. When I see this image it always reminds me of when I was in primary school and some of secondary school particularly in years 4-7 when the teachers either marked our books and put post it notes where you had to improve or when the teacher told you to write something on a post it note and told you to stick it on a wall. In my opinion the image is a relatively realistic image as you would find people leave nots on the fridge or surface. But it also partly looks abstract as it looks like it has been typed up and not hand written and photograph. In this photo the formal elements that seem important are the the lines as the lines are very very straight also the fact that "you will do this" is underlined and in a different colour is a way of showing authority and saying that it will be done. The light in this image has been captured due to the fact that the image is very bright. space has been represented due to the fact that the foreground is very cramped with all the words and the back round is plain and dull. What is in focus is the whole image but more so the words in the foreground. The subject has been cropped as the note itself is bigger where as in reality the not would be smaller than the back round. the photo looks like it has been cropped this is due to the post it note being bigger in the photo whereas it would be quite small in real life it also looks like it has been cropped as the surface has been cropped out. the way the photographer has dealt with space is through the way he put the main subject in the foreground and the the back round has been cropped leaving the viewer the main subject to look at. what i find most interesting is that one section of the note is in bold and red this shows me that it is most important thing the section says "YOU WILL DO THIS " this to me shows that she wanted him to see this part of the note most importantly. if i saw the photographer i would ask him what inspired him to take pictures of the notes that are left and i would ask him why inspired him to become a photographer. when i researched the photographer i found out that he has photographed more notes that had been left and thats the kind of style of photography he focuses most on. i think that the photograph is mainly about what notes he wakes up and sees and its mainly about how many he gets per week this shows that he is often left on his own and he often finds notes . if i were to title the photograph i would title it jo's notes this is due to him having loads of notes from jo. i don't think i will remember anything about this photograph as it is not really a photograph that really stands out to someone and there it not anything that really stands out to me. i think the reason the photographer done this series so he could show people a part of his day and it shows people how often he gets one of these notes.
my final outcome
for my final outcome i am going to be doing a time laps of people at lunch. this will show how people will act during there free time during school this will show how they act when they are not in lesson also to see how the two different lunches act this is because there are two lunches year 7 and 8 , and the other lunch year 9 10 and 11. and see who the different years act in there two lunches. this will show human condition as it is people doing what ever they do in there day to day life and it is people who do the same thing every day for instants they have a Cretan they go at break and lunch and they go there every day when they have free time in school.

this is my first trial of my final project. what i did was the first time i filmed i turned it into black and white from colour then i put two videos side to side after i did that i dragged another copy down underneath so it made 4 squares of the different videos. After i did that i changed the colours of the filters and made the 4 little squares different filters .
for my second attempt i might make the videos longer either or make the filters different colours and make more squares.

final evaluation
This is one of my outcomes what I did was I filmed a set of time lapses and i put them side to side once i did that i changed the filter colours and then i made them play at one time. For me i feel like this links to human condition as it is people in there free time and i feel like that is important for people to have as people need time to themselves away from people and away from reality to fully function properly. what i could improve on is the layout of the 4 vides i could either have 4 more at the bottom playing backwards. what i was trying to create was a video of people at the part of the day where they had free time. I think in have explored the theme but not as fully as i could this is because i feel like i could do a bit more. If I had more time I would experiment with some more videos and see what else i could come up with and see how i could improve my work. i don't feel that there is anything personal about my work the only thing i feel that is personal about my work is the fact that i made it. i want viewers to have there own opinion and have there own relations to my work.
